Mahogany Bay is located on the southwest coast of the island of Roatan - about 40 miles off the north coast of Honduras - and is part of the Bay Islands, which also include Guanaja and Utila. Known for its crystal-clear water, blue skies and warm sun, Roatan is the perfect place for swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and sightseeing from the Magical Flying Beach Chair. Explore the exotic, undeveloped East End of Roatan with a narrated trip aboard an island-style boat. Learn about the island's history, meet the local Garifuna people and sample delicious jams from locally grown flowers and fruits.
Roatan is the largest of Honduras’ Bay Islands and a mecca for divers. Once ruled by pirates, then the British, and now Honduras, today’s Garifuna inhabitants are descendants of settlers from Cayman and St. Vincent, and speak a dialect of Creole English as well as Spanish.
West End is a tranquil little village on a magnificent bay with spectacular beaches, all part of a marine and wildlife preserve that protects much of Roatan from development. Watch for the rare yellow-naped parrot or learn about marine life at the Institute for Marine Sciences. Don't miss out on a special dolphin excursion, where snorkelers and divers can swim, dive and interact with a pod of tame bottle-nosed dolphins.
Due to the nature of this port we do not offer a real estate investment tour. This is a beach day for you to relax and enjoy this port of call on our MCE cruises.
